What did your community do for Columbus Day?
Have you driven through Walden this weekend? If you aren’t familiar with Walden, let me tell you that it is a beautiful community full of tall Texas pine trees, award-winning golf courses, well maintained grounds, and so much more. However, if you’ve driven through in the past few days there is something very different about the grounds. It’s a spectacular demonstration of how proud our community is to be free…to be Americans! This weekend in honor of Columbus Day the Madeley Ranch Elementary PTO, at no cost to the homeowners, has organized to have approximately 1200 American flags posted throughout Walden. It is truly a sight to behold to see that many flags waving in the wind, as a memorial to those who many years ago discovered this great land and more relevant to today, the men and women who have fought to maintain the freedom of our land.
The PTO would like to continue this display throughout the year on six major holidays as a fundraiser for our children at Madeley Ranch Elementary. In my opinion, this is a fantastic idea! I can’t think of a better way to honor a beloved American symbol while supporting our local school! Walden would also like to offer the median in the entrance for flags that can be donated in “Memory Of” or in “Honor Of” someone.
*For a minimal fee of $36.00, a PTO volunteer will place a flag at your residence on the following national holidays:
Veteran’s Day 2010 President’s Day 2011 Memorial Day 2011
Independence Day 2011 Labor Day 2011 Patriot Day 2011
*If you are interested in supporting the Madeley Ranch Elementary PTO, please call 936-443-4959. Orders must be in by November 1, 2010 in order to have your flag flown on November 11, 2010.
